Insomniacs Dream
59Sleepless
Many people go to their beds, tired after a long day of wakefulness. Their brains ready for the rest it seeks because there is no other way to slumber.
Computers, radios, cell phones, television with people coming and going. Things that need to be done now or tomorrow or next week. Agendas that continually hoover over our time we need to sleep.
We get out of bed, go to he refrigerator and warm some milk and add some nutmeg to it. Most of the time that home remedy works, but sometimes its useless. We walk the floor, maybe read a book or have an alcoholic beverage. We desire sleep, our bodies are craving it, yet sleep escapes us.
Sometimes its temporary, like when a child is ill and your staying awake to comfort him or her. Your up watching him sleep soundly, while you wish you could. Tossing and turning while your brain races to places you would prefer not to go. Nano seconds of thoughts passing from one synapse to another.
Electrical surges wildly moving
about in our brain
without any control
like a runaway train
Laying there in the darkness praying for sleep and peace for our bodies and souls. Oh, the beauty of the sleep. It's profound ability to cease all stress and discomfort at just the closing of one's eyes.
The astounding effect it has on every muscle of our bodies. Every brain cell rejoices with the slow rapture of sweet and beautiful sleep. Our bodies gently slowing to our quiet, and the soft beating of our hearts. Sleep is sneaking up on us, we yawn, relax a bit more, move to a better position, and it finally captures us in the darkness.
We become suddenly imprisoned with relaxation and brain waves that slow and finally cease our wakefulness.
This is the dream we have while waiting for sleep to arrive.

Very good writing. Know just how it feels to be tossing and turning and know time is passing and I have to go to work and often with no sleep.
